Handheld Interactive Devices

As we are all aware the use of interactive whiteboards is fast becoming common place in today’s modern classrooms.

But for many teachers and lecturers the need to be more involved within the class, rather than standing at the front in a “chalk and talk” scenario, is a key factor in getting the most out of interactive teaching.

At Fluentblu we have been introducing such technology for some time and have seen a huge improvement in student interaction and teacher participation. There are two key points which get overlooked when looking at interactive hardware, these are:
• Q: How high do we position the board?
A: Difficult decision as it needs to be at a height so that the teacher can use it comfortably, but low enough so that the children can reach. This is common within primary education and unfortunately on many occasions students are unable to use the board.

• Q: Do the same people volunteer to input their answers on the board every lesson?
A: Most likely as shy students and individuals that are struggling with the subject will be less likely to walk to the front of the class in case they are wrong.
With the introduction of the mobile devices, we have received glowing feedback from teaching staff that the involvement of the class has grown dramatically, as there is no restriction on height or disability, as all students can be involved but at the comfort of their own desk.

Students are not afraid of being wrong! This is excellent for the teacher as it allows them to assess individuals and target the speed and content of each session.
